Sue Dawes

I completed my honours degree in Social Science in 1991 and then travelled extensively in Australasia, including spending 13 months getting lost in a 1971 VW campervan. On my return I worked in customer service, social care, and finance (to name a few of the many jobs I have done).  It wasn't until after the birth of my two children and the completion of an MA in Creative Writing in 2010, that I started to hope writing could be more than a hobby. I have recently been awarded a PhD in Creative Writing (2023), and found work in the field, so after a long, meandering journey, I've finally reached one of my goals.

During my writing career, several of my short stories, poems and flash fiction have been published on-line and in magazines/anthologies, including Writers Forum, The New Welsh Review and Mslexia.  I have won several competitions as well as being shortlisted for many more, including: the Debut Dagger Award.  My complete list of achievements, including the most recent, can be found on my blog: Sue Dawes

In addition to writing, I teach part-time at Undergraduate level, and am a manuscript assessor and mentor for The Writers Company.

As well as books, I love television and film and will watch anything that involves werewolves, time travel, murder, or is set in the future. My hobbies include baking, making jewellery, graphic design and painting.

You can find me on Twitter, and my craft projects (and obligatory pictures of my pets) on Instagram
